Arches watercolor papers are mould made in France, with 100% cotton fiber content. They are pH neutral, gelatin-sized, and air-dried.
Sheets have two deckle edges, are watermarked, and embossed I use cold press because I like the texture of the paper.
I have even drawn portraits in pencil on this watercolor paper. It gives the drawing wonderful depth and pencil textures.
As a youth, I would always gravitate to the textured watercolor papers. I used very heavy watercolor papers that were 120 lbs.
The watercolor paper I use now is Arches Cold Press at 90 lbs. This paper takes paints as well as inks really well. The colors turn our vibrant with a beautiful texture.
I buy this paper in boxes of 25 measuring 24 x 26 inches a sheet. I cut the paper for 8 x 10’s and save so much money rather than buying pre cut pads of watercolor paper.
If you are a serious painter, I would try this superb paper. They have lighter weight papers and also very heavy papers that you will just love.
Arches watercolor paper for it’s wonderful feel which enhances the image tremendously.
Arches watercolor paper is used by many artists around the world
If you are going to try pencil drawings on this watercolor paper, use a 2B or any other soft leaded pencil. Smudge with your fingers or use a smudge stick.
You can also apply pen and ink drawings to this paper. I have one watercolor pen and ink that is 40 years old, so you can see the longevity of this special paper.
